Sarah & Matty
Washington wedding photographers
The day started calmly, with the girls arriving at the quaint bed and breakfast lining downtown Anacortes. We laid out Sarah’s dress, veil and shoes and her maid of honor started curling Sarah’s hair. There was quiet music in the background and laughter filled chats of mission trips, old memories and new between friends who grew up together but now lived states away. A wild doe and her babies pranced through the back yard of the house and as the girls squealed and laughed, they all shouted that they were here for Sarah. While the deer may not have known, they became somewhat of a symbol for the rest of the day – peaceful, calming and full of love and joy. Their ceremony was situated on top of a cliff, overlooking the deep blue pacific and the San Juan Islands. They wed under a handmade arch, surrounded by family, with tears in their eyes. We found cliff edges and boulders to climb on, listened to the wind carry the laughter of their wedding party and the noises from the boats below, and hiked back down to their reception where they were greeted by cheers and applause – and tacos. Everyone ate, drank, and danced. As the crowd was dancing, Matty would move from person-to-person dancing along with them, making them all laugh, with the biggest smile on his face. He would never go very long without gravitating back to Sarah, where he would grab her hand and they would twist and spin together – both of their faces lighting up even more when their eyes met one another’s.
At the end of the night, we ran out to the beach. After taking some photos, Sarah & Matty sat on a piece of driftwood and soaked in the magnificent sunset. As I walked away, I turned to see her head slowly fall on to his shoulder as if it was a magnet, attracting them together and fusing them in to one silhouette.
